How we work
Four things that separate a driveway at ten years from one at three
Two installations can look identical the week they are finished. What tells them apart is what happened before the pavers came off the pallet, and by then it is buried.
Ask any contractor quoting your job how deep the base goes and how many lifts they compact. It is a fair question, and the answer tells you most of what you need to know.

Twelve inches of compacted granular under a driveway, eight under a patio, placed in three-inch lifts and compacted between each one. A crew that dumps the whole depth at once and runs a plate over the top is finished a day earlier and their base fails a decade sooner.
Water gets a plan before stone gets laid
We shoot grades off the foundation and set at least a two-percent fall away from the house on every surface. Downspouts get routed under the stone where they need to be, not left to discharge onto the new patio and undercut it from the edge in.
Every edge is cut, not cracked
Perimeter pieces are wet-cut on a saw so the border line is straight and the pattern reads clean from the street. Edge restraint goes in against compacted base and gets spiked every twelve inches, because that restraint is the only thing holding the field together at the boundary.
The property goes back the way it was
Excavated soil leaves in the truck the same day it comes out. Lawn edges are cut clean and re-sodded where we disturbed them, the driveway is washed down at the end of each day, and nothing gets stored on the road overnight.

Site visit and measure
We walk the property with you, take grades off the house, check where water currently goes and measure the actual area. You get a fixed written price, not a per-square-foot guess over the phone.
Layout and locates
Utility locates are booked before anything is dug. We mark the finished shape on the ground with paint so you can see the size and adjust it while changes are still free.
Excavation and base
Soil comes out to depth, deeper for driveways than for patios, and goes straight into the truck. Geotextile over the subgrade, then granular A placed and compacted in lifts rather than all at once.
Screed and laying
A thin bedding layer is screeded to grade, the field is laid to the pattern you picked, and every cut along the edges is made with a saw instead of a splitter.
Edging, sand and cleanup
Edge restraint is spiked in, polymeric sand is swept and set, and the site is swept and washed down. Excess material leaves with us the same day.
Most residential projects run two to five working days on site. We do not start a second property until yours is swept, sanded and signed off. A half-finished driveway is not something a family should be parking around for two weeks.

Most of our work comes from the street the last job was on. These are the things people tell their neighbours.
Three companies quoted our driveway and only one of them got on their knees at the garage door to check the slope. That detail is why we hired them. Two winters later there is no dip at the apron and the water still runs to the street.
They started on the Monday they said they would and finished on the Thursday they said they would, which after our kitchen renovation felt like a small miracle. The yard was swept cleaner than they found it.
Our old walkway had sunk about two inches beside the porch. Instead of selling us a full replacement they lifted it, fixed the base and reset the original stone. Cost a fraction of what the other quote was.
The crew explained what they were doing at each stage without being asked, and the foreman gave me his cell number on day one. Small thing, but it meant I was never wondering what was happening in my own backyard.

Local knowledge matters more than it sounds like it should. The clay through parts of Concord holds water and needs a deeper base than the sandier ground further north. Older Woodbridge streets come with mature maples and root systems that decide where a walkway can go. Newer Vellore and Patterson lots have backfill around the foundation that has not finished settling. We price all of that at the site visit rather than discovering it on day two.

Most residential work in the city lands between $22 and $38 per square foot installed, and the spread is almost entirely base depth and access. A flat backyard patio with a wheelbarrow path down the side sits at the low end. A driveway that needs a 12-inch base, a retaining curb and stone carried past a narrow side yard sits at the top. Anyone quoting you a square-foot price before they have seen the grade is guessing.
How deep does the base need to be in Ontario?
For patios and walkways we build 6 to 8 inches of compacted granular A. Driveways get 10 to 12 inches, more if the subgrade is clay and holds water. Frost depth in York Region runs about 4 feet, so nothing stops heave completely. What a deep, well-drained base does is let the whole surface move together and settle back flat, instead of one section lifting away from the rest.
How long does a typical job take?
A front walkway is usually two days. A standard double driveway is three to five. A large patio with steps and a wall can run a week and a half. We give you a start date and a finish date in the contract, and we do not start a second property until yours is done.
Do I need a permit to widen my driveway in Vaughan?
If you are changing the width of the driveway or the boulevard crossing, yes. The City of Vaughan regulates driveway width relative to lot frontage and controls anything in the road allowance. Replacing an existing driveway in the same footprint generally does not need one. We will tell you which side of that line your project falls on during the site visit.
When is the best time of year to book?
Work runs from roughly April to late November. The calendar for May through August is usually spoken for by early spring, so if you want the patio for summer, the quote should happen over the winter. Late-season installs in October and November are perfectly sound. The ground is still workable and pricing tends to be better.
Will weeds and ants come up through the joints?
Not through the joints if the sand is right. Polymeric sand, properly swept in and activated with water, sets up firm enough that nothing roots in it and ants cannot excavate it. What people usually see is windblown seed germinating in surface debris on top of the stone, which is a sweeping problem rather than an installation failure. Re-sanding every seven to ten years keeps it tight.
Can you match stone on an existing patio or driveway?
Often, yes. If the stone is a current Unilock, Techo-Bloc or Permacon product we can usually order more, though the new stone will read slightly brighter until it weathers in. For discontinued lines we lift pavers from a hidden area, under a deck or along a fence line, to patch the visible section, then fill the hidden area with the closest available match.
What happens if something settles later?
Call us, and separately, get the answer to this in writing from whoever you hire, including us. Settlement caused by how a base was built is fixable: lift the affected pavers, correct the base underneath, reset the original stone and re-sand. Settlement caused by something else, a service trench cut across the driveway a year later, is a different conversation. What matters is agreeing at the quote who covers which, rather than finding out three winters in.
